What is Naturopathic medicine? How can it help me?
Naturopathic medicine is a style of healthcare that focuses on creating a sound foundation of health, acknowledges the healing power of nature, prevention is key, treating each person as a whole being, trusting the wisdom of your body, and values each person’s expertise on their own body.
The philosophy underlying this style of care is that wellness is our natural state. Treating the root cause of an issue is key to overcoming any health challenge. We get sick when we are out of balance, a runny nose is a signal from the body that it is working to clear the nasal passages and return you to your healthy “normal” state. Pain and illness are reminders from the body that there is a problem. The symptom of pain or a runny nose are not the source of a problem, they are not the imbalance, they are a signal. Pay attention to these signals from your body. It is communicating to you. Don’t turn off the smoke alarm before putting out the fire.
Our focus is on patients, on their care and results. Naturopathic doctors teach their patients what aspects of their lifestyle, diet, and surroundings are contributing to their level of health, or limiting their healing potential. We add what needs to be there, we clear obstacles. Bottom line, You heal. That nagging injury, we get to the source of that.
We use gentle methods first, the least invasive means possible. Have you ever spoken to someone and they say they really just want to avoid surgery? That is what we do, we heal current damage and prevent future complications. There is a time and place for drugs and surgery, and when needed it is an option. The point is, you get the care that is needed to heal.
I see patients much later than needed. They have spent years looking for answers. If you are ready for a change, for taking a leap towards a future you love, reach out. I am here for you.
Take care, Dr. Shaw
